All of our products help improve the body's cholesterol levels. Cod liver oil (in liquid or capsule form), Omega-3 Regular Strength, and Omega-3 Maximum Strength all contain Omega-3 fatty acids, EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) and DHA (docosahexanoic acid). These nutrients are known to improve the cholesterol level. Improvement comes from decreasing LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, increasing HDL, the "good" cholesterol, and reducing triglycerides which are fatty compounds that circulate in the bloodstream.
Shark liver oil aids the body with nutrients called G-E-lipids (glycerol ether lipids, also known as alkylglycerols.) In addition to their immunological benefits, these nutrients have been shown to improve the functioning of the liver, which is where the body produces cholesterol. Taking shark liver oil is a good addition to a regular supplement of omega-3 or cod liver oil.
The long chain omega-3 polyunsaturates are essential for the optimal development of the fetus. They are especially important for the formation of a healthy brain, eyes and nervous system. Each is made up in large part from the long chain omega-3s and studies have shown that if the mother's diet does not provide sufficient omega-3, then the formation and function of the fetal organs can be impaired somewhat. Oil-rich fish is an excellent source of the long chain omega-3 polyunsaturates. Approximately 20% of natural fish oil is made up of the omega-3 polyunsaturates, of which the two major components are EPA and DHA.
There is no information which suggests that fish oil capsules are not safe. On the contrary, they are free from the toxins that making eating fish risky. As far as intake recommendation is concerned, for the average pregnant woman, experts recommend an intake of 650mg of long chain omega-3 polyunsaturates per day, of which at least 180mg should be DHA. Thus to achieve this intake from Maximum Strength Omega-3 capsules, a daily intake of 1000mg of oil will be needed, the amount found in one capsule.
Cod liver oil (in liquid or capsule form) and omega-3 all contain omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) and DHA (docosahexanoic acid). These nutrients are known to improve the cholesterol level. Improvement comes from decreasing ldl, the "bad" cholesterol, increasing hdl, the "good" cholesterol, and reducing triglycerides which are fatty compounds that circulate in the bloodstream.

Not only is our cod liver oil safe for children, but children in Iceland have been taking it for hundreds of years. In fact, U.S. heart associations and the National Institute of Health all recommend the omega-3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil for children from 2 years and older.
The recommended dosage for children 5-7 years old is half a teaspoon per day (aprox. 2.5 grams containing 382 i.u. Of vitamin A and 92 i.u. Of vitamin D.) Children find our fruit flavor most appealing.
Most fish allergies would probably not be activated by taking Maximum Strength Omega-3 since almost everything is removed except for the omega-3 oil, which is an essential fatty acid that everyone requires. There are however trace quantities of other fish nutrients remaining in the oil and, since we don't have information on what you are specifically allergic to, they might trigger a reaction. Therefore, it is best to check with your health care provider before taking any new medicines or supplements.
Another possibility is taking our omega-3 health bar. It is made with flax seed oil, another important source omega-3. It has no fish oil in it.
The term "pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 oil" is a set of specifications regarding the amounts of the various fatty acids contained in the oil after processing. These specifications are defined in a pharmacopeia, which is a compendium of specifications (also called monographs) for all types of organic and inorganic substances that people use for health or medicinal purposes. Omega-3 specifications are defined in the european pharmacopeia and our omega-3 products conform to or exceed those standards thereby making them "pharmaceutical-grade" by definition.
The key to verifying this is the amount of EPA and DHA (the 2 most important acids) in a gram of omega-3 oil. It can vary a lot from one brand to another. Our products contain more than sufficient levels. Also important to understand is that some brands produce their oils with additives to manipulate the levels of EPA and DHA artificially. Our lab in Iceland produces a completely natural product.
In addition, our lab in Iceland uses a patented process to remove more of the toxins from the oil and is certified by european and Icelandic authorities as a pharmaceutical production facility, the same as those that are approved for producing prescription medication.

- is it pharmaceutical-grade containing at least 60% omega-3?
- is it produced under the same laboratory conditions as prescription medication?
- are the fish used in production from clean waters?
- has it been completely purified of all toxins? And
- is it a completely natural product, free of any additives?
As the leading brand of pharmaceutical-grade fish oils, our pricing reflects a good and fair value to our customers. Our oils are imported from Iceland where they are made from fresh fish caught in the clean waters around Iceland and then purified of toxins and concentrated to pharmaceutical standards. Our products are made in laboratories that are supervised by an Icelandic pharmaceutical oversight board - the same standards as those used for prescription medication. We then test each batch with an independent laboratory to assure purity, cleanliness and freshness.
All of these steps cost money but it's worth it when our customers are taking our products for their health. Other brands simply do not do this.
The truth of the matter is that it is not impossible to remove all traces of mercury and other heavy metals from fish oil, it's impossible to detect levels that are that low. No equipment exists that can detect metals in oil below a certain point, so when all metals are removed we are required by law to state "non-detectable levels."
Our detoxification process removes virtually all toxins and heavy metals from our products to the point when they are below detectable levels. Our lab in Iceland uses a proprietary natural process to achieve these results and, subject to regulations of the european good manufacturing practice and pharmaceutical production commission and iso 9002 (a European standards code), samples of our oils are tested frequently for toxicity levels by licensed third-party testing companies.
Our factory in Iceland uses the company listed below for testing. They are used extensively by companies in the food industry and carry out analyses of all types of trace contaminants:

Chem. Eggert - Dr. Jörissen GMBH
