The Company

In the following years, the company became the largest producer of cod liver oil for export to the United States. Between 1938 and 1950 it exported large quantities of its cod liver oil to Up-John where vitamins A and D where extracted.

The production of medicinal cod liver oil for the consumer market started in 1959. Ever since, the Icelandic market has played an essential role as a benchmark, testing ground and research site.

Production

Our processing plant is uniquely equipped with the highly specialized production units necessary for complete fish oil processing, including separation of:

  • the oil from the liver or fish
  • water and impurities from the oil
  • valuable components by distillation
This equipment has been extensively designed to minimize oxidation of the oil and to remove taste and smell in the final product by natural means.

Quality is recognized as the most important factor in the company's business. Therefore management emphasizes the following principles:

  1. To train and educate the company's personnel in order to increase their skills and knowledge.
  2. To manufacture quality products that meets the requirements and expectations of customers.
  3. To undertake research and product development in order to meet customer needs.

To implement these principles, management has established a Certified Quality System conforming to the ISO 9002 international standard. Furthermore, the company has extended the scope of the above standard by incorporating special requirements for sanitary measures, work surroundings and premises. These factors are subject to regulations of Good Manufacturing Practice and Pharmaceutical Production, a prerequisite for obtaining authorization for pharmaceutical production and packaging. It is one of the very few companies producing these products to attain such a high standard. Finally, all products are frequently tested by licensed 3rd party laboratories for potency and purity.
